Ysabel Giraldo
Principal Investigator
I have always been fascinated with the natural world. My education and research has ranged from community ecology to behavior and neuroscience. My undergraduate honors thesis in Dr. Mike Kaspari’s lab examined the role of micronutrients on invertebrate communities in the Panama tropical rainforest. I completed my PhD with Dr. James Traniello at Boston University studying neural correlates of behavior and aging in ants. From there I moved to Caltech to work with Dr. Michael Dickinson. I delved into the behavioral neuroscience of insect navigation studying sun orientation in Drosophila, which has served as the jumping off point for my own lab here at UCR.
My lab’s integrative approach reflects this breadth, and I am excited to recruit scientists at all levels interested in exploring these questions using a wide range of new tools and approaches.
